American BioRubber has been the leader in pioneering guayule materials for over two decades. Our portfolio of patents, know-how, and trade secrets is second to none and in today’s market more valuable than ever before.
American BioRubber was the first company to extract, purify, compound, and produce medical grade products, achieving certification to strict FDAs 510k requirements. We went on to develop a vast array of elastomeric compounds, materials, wet-stick adhesives, and advanced products all based on guayule. In 2011 the company started a material development program to use guayule as a replacement for neoprene in foam in wetsuits with Patagonia Clothing company. After eight months of trails and testing Patagonia launched the world’s first plant-based wetsuit called the Yulex Wetsuit.
Rubber chemistry, compounding, and product manufacturing
American BioRubber has developed a vast array of elastomeric compounds based on guayule and as a result patented a wide range of products: from ultra-thin films used for surgical gloves and condoms to endotracheal tube cuffs, heart catheters and more. Utilizing a combination of guayule rubber and resin, we patented an advanced wet-stick adhesive for wound care and cohesive wraps.
In order to convert raw materials into compounds and then products, you need to have a good understanding of a range of manufacturing methods, equipment and production techniques, which is exactly the information you need to commercialize guayule production; albeit a robust portfolio of elastomeric products, fractionated resins or one of the hundreds of products guayule fiber can produce.
Laboratory setup, equipment selection and testing protocols
At Yulex knowing how to validate your finding in the laboratory is a must and when we started, there were not many globally accepted test and validation methods available to prove the performance or value of this new material. To ensure its commercial position Yulex developed multiple ASTM and proprietary test protocols to demonstrate and backup our findings. Yulex understands how to setup a laboratory, choose equipment, and perform tests to ensure what you produce satisfy tough demands from an international market.
